“Truth doesn’t kill a cause that is just”

I have pondered for days before writing this piece, at the same time, it was necessary given the present happenings in the political space. However, one of the most expectant intriguing landmarks of the forthcoming September 19th, 2020 Governorhip Election in Edo State is that it will stage a re-enacting of political contest between Governor Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Ironically, in their first contest in 2016, Oshiomhole, politically baby-fed Obaseki who had no background and experience in the political space against a seasoned political strategist and tactician, Pst Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Today, the situation has changed completely, as Edo State is about to witness an epic rematch but in a reverse scenario; Obaseki who won the APC ticket on a platter of gold in 2016 through the organisational, political mastery and strong negotiation skills of his precedessor in collaboration with majority of APC leaders in Edo State went ahead and won the 2016 governorship election.

Today, Obaseki has deliberately found himself in the murky waters of PDP as their candidate with the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who was Director General for Oshiomhole re-election in 2012 that saw Adams Oshiomhole setting a record in the history of Edo State gubernatorial elections and winning in all the Eighteen (18) Local Government Areas in a landslide victory.

Although, both have now switched platforms for different reasons. In the case of Obaseki, he narrowly survived non-participation in the 19 September, 2020 governorship election through a mid-night carpet-crossing to the PDP, an embarrassing action that vastly diminished his moral integrity and inarguably called to question his self-acclaimed technocrat.

Beyond his Benin moat perimeter, nobody in his right senses will give him any consideration when it comes to future national engagements.

Aside his political immaturity, Obaseki has behaved with execrable vileness and arrogant licentiousness. “You do not throw the baby and the bathwater”. Although it takes strength and courage to admit the truth, but Obaseki in his closet, will admit that he has failed himself, for he who throws away a beloved friend is as bad as he who throws away his life.

For Pastor Osagie – Ize Iyamu, he has shown that is a man with a large heart, with a huge disposition of Inter-personal relationship that draws people to him within the breadth and length of Edo State and beyond.
He naturally understands the rules and psychology of politics and that is a big plus and advantage he has over the sitting Governor.

In one of my previous piece in 2018, I specifically made it clear that “Reality has a way of searing the tares of unwarranted ambition ”

Majority of observers and analysts of Edo politics are of the undeniable opinion that the Orhionmwon born politician will defeat Godwin Obaseki despite the fact that Godwin Obaseki is a sitting governor.

Without any scintilla of doubts, Oshiomhole as governor of Edo State for eight years was able to effectively hold his party and the governance of Edo State out of the destabilising intrusion of the garrulous opposition.
As a result, his towering influence gave victory to the politically unknown Obaseki in 2016.

Given Pst Osagie Ize-iyamu significant political presence and structure over Obaseki in 2016, Oshiomhole had to market Obaseki to Edo People and changed the narratives that he was more knowledgeable and had the capacity. That was the narrative sold to Edo people but Obaseki has not lived up that expectation with little or nothing more to show Edo people but has decided to rely on deceit and campaign of calumny.

The APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is more ready and prepared to serve, unlike Obaseki who sees war were there is no misunderstanding and wants to crush anyone that disagrees with him.

However, elections are not won by creating enemies and destroying a well built structure.
Obaseki has failed to realize that building bridges is far better than creating enemies. Although the capitalist believes that money is what win election in Nigeria. As such, he waited this long for the tax collectors, but those that forget the past easily are condemn to repeat again. There is no denying that 2015 presidential election is still the most expensive election ever in the history of Nigeria, yet President Jonathan lost that election because Nigerians needed a change of government, the rest they say is history.

Although this time is a complex race, but how complex is it for a man who has the capacity and political experience ? How complex will it be for a man who has emotional intelligence?

How complex will it be for a man who knows how to maintain cordial relationship with people ? How complex will it be for a man who knows how to relate with his political associates ? How complex will it be for a man who can be accessed anytime ?

How complex will it be for a man who is humble ? How complex will it be for a man who is a team player ? How complex will it be for a man who easily identify with people ? How complex will it be for a man who gives listening ears ? How complex will it be for a man who had nurtured thousands of people in the past ? How complex will it be for a man who assisted thousands of youths to be gainfully employed ?

How complex will it be for a man who had contributed to the success of others in the political space ?
How complex will it be for a man who can relate with his people using his local dialect ? How complex will it be for a man who has large followers and grassroots movement across the 192 wards in Edo State ? How complex will it be for a man who has forgiven spirit ? How complex will it be for a man who has interpersonal skills? How complex will it be for a man who is tactical and strategic?

How complex will it be for a man who knows how to win election ? How complex will it be for a man who has majority of the people with him ? How complex will it be for a man who is loved by his people ? How complex will it be for a father blessed with a God fearing and beautiful wife with lovely children ? How complex will it be for a man Whose Time Has Come ? Remember, “Truth doesn’t kill a cause that is just ”

Patience puts a crown on the head of those who wait upon the Lord, Pastor Osagie Ize -Iyamu time has come and nothing on earth can stop a man whose time has come..
