President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comrade Danielson Bamidele AKPAN, GCNS has called on Nigerian students in Osun state to be of good conduct and coordinate themselves in peaceful manner while exercising their franchise in tomorrow’s re-run election.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the Osun governorship election inconclusive on Sunday.

INEC said that the difference between the two leading parties, APC and PDP, was less than the total number of votes cancelled hence a rerun was fixed for Thursday, Sept. 27.

The PDP, after final collation in Osun led its closest challenger, APC, by 353 votes while 3,498 votes were cancelled.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to NANS President on Media and Strategic Communications, Sunny Ibeh, “the President stressed on the need for a peaceful conduct of the re-run, and urged members of the students’ community in the state to be of good conduct by doing that which is right.”

The NANS President also admonished students in the affected local government areas to eschew all forms of violence and act with all sense of civility and total compliance to existing laws in tomorrow’s exercise, saying, “NANS remains non-partisan under my watch. Therefore, students in the affected areas should vote based on merit and credibility.”

Comrade Bamidele called on security agencies to do the needful by ensuring maximum security of all Nigerian students during the exercise, adding that “the organisation would not tolerate any negative acts or unwarranted attack on any of its member during the re-run.”
