In commemoration of United Nations International world peace day marked on September 21st, A non-governmental organisation “FACULTY OF PEACE”, an affiliated body of Edo State Civil Society Organisation, organized an event to celebrate the day, with the theme “CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE: This is the way, Walk in it”. The event which was held at Baden-Baden hotel Sapele road, Benin City, had in attendance many top dignitaries.

Some of the dignitaries who attended the event as guest speakers included: Representative of former IGP Rtd. Solomon Arase, Edo state Commsioner of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Osaze Osemwegie-Ero, Edo state Chief Imam, Alhaji Enabulele, legendary Musician, Pa Osayomore Joseph, Cordinator general of Edo state civil society organisation’ Comrade Omobude Agho and many other dignitaries, Comrades and advocates of peace.

In his speech, the Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Osaze Osemwegie-Ero has reaffirmed his position on the importance of culture in achieving sustainable peace and development in Edo state.

He spoke further by stating that the impact of culture as an essential factor of both sustainable development and lasting peace can never be overemphasized.

He pointed out that peace is sacrosanct and vital for unity, progress and development of our communities, as insecurities, conflicts and disunity slows down the pace of development.

Hon. Osaze Osemwegie-Ero also commended the pivotal role of all security agencies in the state for their professional handling and roles in ensuring a peaceful Edo state. He also emphasized on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s desire and commitment to use the promotion of Edo cultural heritage and revamping of her historical tourism potential as a critical tool in promoting unity, love, security among all ethnic groups in Edo state, as culture informs and influence people’s relationships to substantiable development and conflict reconciliation.

He added that the government is also eager to promote peace and unity through involvement in cultural festivals, as was witnessed in the recently concluded ABA FESTIVAL in Igarra, which witnessed great success because of the involvement of Edo state government through the ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs.

In his closing remarks, the honourable Commissioner commended the convener of the event, Comrade Osunbor Kelly Omokaro, for a successful celebration of International World Peace day.
