COVID19: Odubu Commends UBTH Health Workers for Bravery and Professionalism

Immediate Past Deputy Governor of Edo State and the leading aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in the state has paid glowing tribute to n doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals for the courage, bravery and professionalism in the handling of the outbreak for the deadly corona virus codenamed Covid -19.

In a Letter addressed to the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Professor Darlington Obaseki on Monday in Benin City, Dr Odubu in rare display of solidarity commended the Medical Officers of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for their exemplary display of professionalism in handling and detecting the Covid-19 virus.

“I wish to commend you and these Medical and health workers for their exemplary display of professionalism in handling and detecting that the patients who were actually Covid-19 infected despite deliberate attempts to mislead the health workers” the statement said.

Dr Odubu expressed delight that the persons have now been effectively isolated from other patients in the hospital even though one has passed on.

“Our major concern is that UBTH being a major health facility with proven track record of successes in the management of diverse health cases, you will be able to rise up to the challenges posed by this pandemic particularly as Edo State is a gateway location to other parts of the country, the statement added.

Dr Odubu pledged support to UBTH and other health institutions within the State and Country to assist the government to contain and manage the spread of the virus.

“It is absolutely a trying time for our nation, Nigeria and the entire world. The responsibility of protecting our country rests squarely on the shoulders of health care institutions and the workers who have become endangered species in their line of duty” the statement read in part.

“It is therefore my hope and prayer that these doctors and other medical staff who are currently in isolation will return negative while those who already tested positive through grace and mercy of God be treated, healed and subsequently return negative”

“As our country joins the rest of the world to fight the Corona Virus pandemic, we call on public spirited individuals, the citizenry and institutions to cooperate with government in every step of the way to ensure that this war is won for the benefit of mankind”

The immediate Past Deputy Governor commended the Chief Medical Director, the Management and Staff of UBTH for their constant and relentless display of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
