The Buhari Media Organization (BMO) has described the 2021 budget proposal presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly on the 8th of October 2020 as a courageous proposal in the face of a global pandemic that is ravaging economies.

In a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, the group stated that the projects, programmes and policies that the President presented in the 2021 Budget were outstanding and brave, and would require focus and prudence to achieve, characters President Buhari is known to have.

“From the social investment programmes which have over 400 Billion Naira earmarked, to funding for capital projects under the Ministry of Works and Housing, and the Water Resources Ministry, which spill to over 500 Billion collectively, to various electrification projects, projects in education and health, among several others, the President has put forward what many would describe as ambitious, even lofty proposals; yet they are brave, practicable and achievable with President Buhari.

“Despite the coronavirus pandemic that has affected economies, President Buhari is putting forward a 13 trillion Naira Budget proposal. Many may share their fears over this proposal being implemented to the letter, but history has shown that President Buhari is a focused person who when he sets a target to achieve a thing, he more often than not achieves it.

“It is on the record that previous Budget submissions have achieved huge and unprecedented levels of implementation; this is attributable to the President’s focus, strategic management of resources and prudence.

“We are sure that with plugged leakages in the government purse, and the proper and strategic utilisation of all available resources, the remarkable targets proposed in the Budget submitted to the National Assembly will see the light of day.

“The Budget proposal, of 13 Trillion Naira, the highest ever in Nigeria’s history and presented exactly a year from the day the 2020 budget proposal was presented, would see Nigeria get out of the woods during this global pandemic.

“Yes, the Nigerian economy has been hit by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, however, the country has been able to sail steadily and surely through it to a much better place than most countries. This is possible today because of the kind of focused, dedicated and integrity-driven leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We are certain that this expansionary Budget will tackle the challenges that have emerged due to the coronavirus pandemic.”

The BMO, while commending the National Assembly for its  “unwavering partnership with President Buhari towards the development of the country”, stated that its kind of partnership with the President has helped Nigeria stay stable despite the economic storms of the pandemic. The group called for the legislature to continue to remain steadfast as patriots.
