The erstwhile Acting Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Anthony Elujoba, who is standing trial at the Osun State High Court, has been granted bail.
This is coming after Staff and Students of the University declared 2days lecture-free day in solidarity with the University Don and took over the court premises and the internet with the #FreeElujoba campaign.
Prof. Elujoba is currently standing trial for alleged misappropriation of funds, a situation the University community has described as witch hunting and totally unfair.
According to a student who doesn’t want his name in print, Prof. Elujoba is being persecuted for doing the right thing.
In his words;
“Prof. Elujoba has done nothing wrong. What happened is this — there was a backlog of allowances owed staff of OAU, the NASU and SSANU which plunged the institution into a monumental crisis.
“It was in all these that his appointment as the Acting VC came with a mandate from the Federal government to stabilize peace in the university and bring all members of the university together.
“Upon assuming office, he discovered that there was a secret stash of billions named a development fund kept in a secret account by the Omole’s administration. The VC then directed that part of the fund be used to offset the backlog of allowances of the staff. That is what the VC is being tried for.
“That’s the crystal truth. But he is charged for procedural error as per TSA things that all money should be returned to the Federal government account.”
