• Urges citizens to get registered

Douglas Baye-Osagie, senior legislative aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for extending the deadline for this year’s continuous voters registration. Osagie gave this commendation in a statement he made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Benin City.

This is coming barely two weeks after Osagie called on the commission to consider extending the deadline to enable more persons register and collect their PVCs to vote in the forthcoming 2019 general elections. Osagie gave the charge during a symposium organized by the Correspondent Chapel of the Edo state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He said: “I commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for listening to the yearnings of Nigerians, and extending voters registration by two weeks.

“I consider this a welcome development as it will enable all those eligible to vote, register ahead of the forthcoming general elections.”

He charged the youth to fully utilize the two weeks extension to get registered, adding that the PVC remains the most powerful tool in modern day democracy that can effect the desired change in governance.

“As youth, we must ensure we get registered to vote. Don’t be deceived, the era of being used as political thug is over. This is the ‘Not-Too-Young-To-Run’ era, you must get registered to vote and be voted for. Thankfully, the National Assembly have done the needful, now, we the youth can also run for elective positions instead of being political thugs.

“I urge you, therefore, to fully utilize this extension to mobilize those in your environ to get registered to vote in the forthcoming 2019 general elections”, he said.
