The prolonged stay of President Muhammadu Buhari outside Nigeria has started creating ripples as a group of Nigerians led by Mr Charles Oputa, aka Charlie Boy are set to kick start a process aimed towards pressing for the President’s resignation or an immediate return to Nigeria.

Charlie Boy had started a subtle anti-Buhari campaign over the past few months, complaining that situation of Nigeria in Nigeria which he traced to escalating cases of corruption, human rights abuses, security challenges, gripping influence of the cabal in government and others.

Charlie Boy, however blamed the alleged escalating crises under the government of President Buhari on the perceived complascence or inaction by Nigerians.

To ward of the complacence and inactions, he had raised a hash tag; #OurMumuDonDo which has been trending on the social media for some time.

By the hash tag, Charlie Boy and his supporters have been mobilizing for the daily sit-out with the aim of impressing it on the President to resign on account of ill health, or in the alternative return him immediately from London where he has been convalescing ostensibly to regain his health

President Buhari has been receiving eminent Nigerians in his base in London including Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, some state governors and members of his political party, All Progressives Congress, while the latest person to pay him a visit is the Arch Bishop of Canterbury.

According to plans, Charlie Boy and his group drawn from different civil society groups would commence a daily sit-out at the Unity Foundation where they are expected to instigate talks on the health condition of the President and how to bail out Nigeria the alleged backlash effects traced to his prolonged absence from home.

Deji Adeyanju, National Co-Coordinator, Foundation For True Freedom and Good Leadership unveiled a marshal plan for the sit-out initiative by Charlie Boy and others in a press statement he signed.

According to the statement, the daily sit-out at the Unity Fountain would take off simultaneously in Abuja and London.

Adeyanju said similar protest had been held in the past when leading Nigerians, including the incumbent President, Professor Wole Soyinka, Pastor Tunde Bakare and others demanded the immediate resignation of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on the basis of his prolong absence from Nigeria and affliction by illness.

His statement read,

“Today is the 90th day since President Muhammadu Buhari left the country on a medical tourism in London.

“We are writing to inform the general public, local and international media, Civil Society groups that Mr Charles Oputa, AKA Charlie Boy and other prominent Nigerians will be leading the Monday daily sit-Out at the Unity fountain by 10 am.

The flag-off of the daily sit-out will commence with a procession from the Unity Fountain to Aso Rock by 9am prompt.

“The London leg of the protest which is scheduled to hold at the Abuja House, London by 11am (UK time) will be led by Comrade Chidi Cali, barrister Bob and several others.

“Other prominent Nigerians that have indicated interest in gracing the daily Sit-Out in demanding for President Muhammadu Buhari’s return or resignation from office are Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke and many others.

“You would recall that President Muhammadu Buhari, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Professor Wole Soyinka, Dr Joe Odumakin and several other civil rights activists were among those who called for the impeachment of late President Umar Musa Yar’adua when he went on medical tourism in Saudi Arabia but have remained silent now.

“In the words of Professor Wole Soyinka, “The man dies in all, who keeps silent in the face of tyranny”.
